It is very common around this period to hear folks say, "i pray this new year brings good luck to me" or "this new year better bring good tidings". They sound like the new year already has stuff planned out for them, and they don't have control over their circumstances or what happens in the coming year.
I'll like to point out here that the new or coming year doesn't bring anything with it,whether good or bad. The new year is just a space of time for you to make choices and watch out for the outcome. The new year is like a blank book that allows you write on it. You make something out of the new year not the other way round. If the coming year is what you make of it,then there ought to be some preparation to do and that's why i'm writing this post to guide you. Here are some thoughts!
1)Have a reflection for the past year:
There are numerous thoughts, associations and resolutions that can apply to a new year. A transition, a new beginning. Like crossing a threshold. There are multiple possibilities at hand for engaging with this season of transition, and being at this threshold can be a liberating experience. Every year we are given a chance to pursue a foreign, yet familiar land. A territory we have the option to seize and make our own. At the end of the year, we take time to reflect, feeling a sense of completion and an awareness of accomplishment. This enables us to make empowering resolutions for the New Year that feel inspiring and exciting.(culled from montblanc magazine,http://www.montblanc.com/en/collection/landing-pages/stories-to-tell-preparing-for-the-new-year.html.)
2)Spend sometime alone:
During these last days leading to the new year, it will be wise to leave the holiday distraction and get quiet. I as a christian will fast and pray. Aligning myself with God's will for the coming year and making my plans together with him is a sure way to win in 2018.
3)Use routines rather than resolutions: Redesigning established patterns of activities.
Resolutions are key points on the things you wish to carry out while routines are laid out patterns. The latter is sure to breed success. For example, It’s not very effective to say, “I want to lose weight this year so I’ll start going to the gym more.” Instead try writing your first weight loss target in your wellness journal or calendar: “My goal is to lose 4 pounds in February, which breaks down to one pound a week. Starting today I am going to the gym every Monday and Thursday after work at 6:00pm. Right now I am going to put my gym bag in the trunk of my car.” When Thursday arrives, this specific plan is already in place, the preparations have been made, and the routine has been automated.(culled from montblanc magazine,http://www.montblanc.com/en/collection/landing-pages/stories-to-tell-preparing-for-the-new-year.html) . With these in mind your new year should be a blast! Happy new 2018 in advance!
