My views on censorship have not been refined, improved, or gained subtlety for as long as I can remember. The facts are what they are, and knowing what is factually correct is vitally important. I am a free speech maximalist, and have been since my earliest youth.
Censorship is a weapon that will spill innocent blood. Kiwis are presently blocked from the chans by their government, and there is going to be retaliation against them for the Christchurch attack that censorship will make them more vulnerable to. How do I know this?
This is how.
I am not blocked from the chans, unlike Kiwis, and probably others. All I can do is pass along this information so that people that can't find it for themselves can consider it. The chans are notorious for racists, government shills, and other retards of every kind and stripe saying the most unkind things and threatening one another.
This is why actual terrorists can be found there. Oddly, although Tarrant warned of his terrorist intent on 8chan, which is now being blocked, he livestreamed his attack on Fakebook, which is not. Which of these platforms is actually more dangerous? Why is government attacking part of the solution to terrorism, rather than attacking terrorism?
Free speech saves lives.
I am not claiming this is an actual terrorist act in the offing, but if you're from New Zealand you aren't being allowed to make that decision for yourself, and that puts you and your communities in danger.
I strongly urge everyone to fight censorship with every facility. The life you save may be your own.
Most of these bl9cks can be circumvented by not using the shitty DNS servers your ISP provides.
The alternative is a VPN. The other alternative, well; you're reading this comment through it right now. :)

There is almost always a way around censors. Not everyone can find them. I'm glad you can.
Then there's millions of people like me who barely understand how a browsers functions let a lone decipher which one's shield you, how to find and install them.
There is a learning curve, but when the words of the world have been taken from you, it's damn well time to undertake it. Were you blocked from Steem, you'd look for ways to get back there, and folks in New Zealand are finding those ways around the censor's blocks today.
You'd either figure it out, or find someone who had and would tell you how.
That is a great point, I never thought of. The fact, when they censor the chans, all they do is have in effect less eyes on the chans - i.e., if the attack really "happened" the way they said it happened - if - then with more eyes on the places by the public, it could have been reported. All they have done here, is really make it a dark zone, where no one can see as much. Excellent point!
A Blockchain SOLUTION To Online Censorship Has Arrived And It’s Called POCKETNET!
I hope this is only the first in a long string of actions that make censorship impossible.
Thanks!
