The "Countering Disinformation And Propaganda Act" (H.R. 5181) Passed by the US Senate

Orwellian

Just weeks after the House of Representatives introduced "H.R. 6393: Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017", the U.S. Senate has just passed the "(H.R. 5181) Countering Disinformation And Propaganda Act", which was introduced earlier in the year by Congressmen Adam Kinzinger and Ted Lieu.

Propaganda

This was all in motion well ahead of the "fake news" propaganda campaign waged by the mainstream media at the behest of the US Government; which by the way in 2012 nullified the Smith-Mundt Act, thereby allowing the State Department and the Broadcasting Board of Governors to spread propaganda to the American people within US borders.

Information

Yes, the same people who want to call any counter-narrative to their own, "fake news", and shut down that person or persons means of dissemination, made it legal for themselves to spread propaganda within the US borders.

One thing is for certain, that overweight microphone screaming controlled opposition agent was right about one thing, it's an information war and the war is for your mind. Just be careful who you're listening to, sometimes it's hard to tell.

Sort:

Tuck, the saddest part is watching people you know and care about drink the gov's kool-aid without question. I've been bleating (to no effect) about the repeal of smith mundt since 2013, and not even Wikipedia identifies it as repealed yet.

We're walking quietly, hand-in-hand, to the den.

The internet has been so distorted lately, it's been making me feel ill. I'm very close to just walking away from it. Everyone's just repeating the narrative of the information bubble they're caught in, and the mental cost of decoding information from propaganda is so high it's not even worth it.

Thanks for the first useful article I've seen in months. I wonder how long Steemit will survive.

Are you serious? In the age of social media censoring their people you worry about the ONE that doesnt let censorship happen and even gives ownership in the network to its users?

I agree with u about feeling ill over this craziness on the inet today. I do think, however, u are very wrong about steem

I wasn't suggesting Steemit is censored, but it certainly could become a target.

They might not be able to physically destroy it, but they could harass its users.

No matter what they do, if they harass its users, its users will make their own front ends with their own private communities. ;)

The future looks grim.

What can we do?

Kick ass with these powerful tools we have.

Opens up another bottle of wine & sighs

This will be my word for 2017: Corporatocracy

I'm tired of all the blah blah blah ! Our forefathers would have been shooting by now ! Get up off your lazy asses and take the country back from these criminals before we end up in a gulag !

Im glad u are back...
U animal.

Wow that's bad...
