An unprecedented heatwave with temperatures across the country reaching record values for the start of summer
The heat wave is expected to hit Greece from the middle of next week.
If the current hot weather patterns continue, temperatures are expected to rise over 41 degrees Celsius by the middle of next week in the country. Temperatures are forecast to climb to 39 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
The World Meteorological Organisation said that based on the development of temperatures over the past two months, the earth is seeing one of its hottest seasons and the the heat waves have arrived earlier than expected.
The trend recorded over the past two months places the average global temperatures among the highest recorded since 1880.
