In connection with the release of Bitmain devices Antminer Z9 mini for extraction of crypto currency on the algorithm of Equihash, the ZCash Foundation will begin to develop an appropriate ZIP to make the necessary changes to the main protocol. At the same time, the organization stressed that a thorough and comprehensive study of the potential impact of new miners on the ZCash ecosystem will be conducted in parallel. The developers promised to find out whether the new device will completely displace GPU-miners, or the latter will still be able to remain competitive. If GPU-miners can easily compete with new market players, then probably there will be no need to implement the corresponding ZIP, because the decentralization of the protocol will remain safe. The proposal for the transformation of the PoW consensus algorithm will not be presented until the end of 2018.
