New York bomb strapped to man explodes at Manhattan subway, Trump briefed on attack

A pipe bomb strapped to man exploded on a New York City subway platform - causing panic in Manhattan.

The male suspect was arrested and has non-life-threatening injuries, the New York Police Department said.

"No injuries other than suspect at this time," it added.

The explosion at a terminal on 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders has tweeted that President Donald Trump has been informed.

Mr Trump "has been briefed on the explosion in New York City", she said.

Andre Rodriguez, 62, told the New York Times that he heard an explosion shortly before 7.30am.

He added: "I was going through the turnstile. It sounded like an explosion, and everybody started running."

In a statement on Twitter the NYPD said that three subway lines were being evacuated, adding: "Info is preliminary, more when available."
