Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have agreed to speed up the delivery of S-400 air defense missile systems to Ankara.
Turkish Undersecretary for Defence Industries Ismail Demir announced on Twitter that the delivery of S-400 air defence missile systems to Turkey is scheduled to begin in July 2019. Source
“We have changed the delivery date of the S-400 systems, specified in the contract with Russia to July 2019” tweeted Demir on Tuesday.
After his meeting with Erdogan, Putin said "We took the decision to speed up the timetable for the delivery of these highly effective Russian systems." Source
Putin added that the speeding up of the deal was being carried out on "request of our Turkish partners and friends."
The S-400 deal is worth around US$2.5 billion, and the delivery of the S-400 missile systems was to begin in 2020.Source
