Corruption Breeds Disease and Poverty

California Homeless And Sanitation Problems

Hundreds of cases of hepatitis A has occurred in southern California. Los Angeles has over 50,000 people living on its streets. The lack of toilets has been an ongoing problems with a 23% increase in 2017. Staggering Number Of Homeless In LA Shows How Tough It Is To Get By

A group of nonprofits called the LA Central Providers Collaborative have issued a warning about crowded living conditions on Skid Row. There has been an increase in Hepatitis A as well as other diseases, you can see this list here.

A link to My Blog

The volunteer organization was shocked how the city, one of the most prosperous cities in America hasn’t met minimal standards and living conditions for it’s low income and homeless population. The report has stated that Los Angeles doesn’t even meet standards for a refugee camp. Overnight most public toilets are shut down leaving nine public toilets open for over 1700 people without a place to live, the report I am reading calls this group of people the “Unsheltered Homeless People.”

The United Nations refugee camp standards state there must be one toilet for every twenty people. September of 2017 Los Angeles County experienced a large outbreak of Hepatitis A throughout it’s population of homeless, drug users, gay, and bisexual men. This disease and many others are caught through touching contaminated surfaces or eating contaminated food, drinking contaminated water. The homeless have turned to shitting on the streets. You can see a pop map for San Francisco here.

Los Angeles and other cities have tried to spend the homeless problem away through higher and higher taxes. No one knows where the money has gone too. Spending has reached over $40,000 dollars per homeless person. Over $1.2 billion bond to build housing for the homeless has been held. Many people are complaining nothing will happen after years of promises and nothing has happened except tax money has disappeared. Many have stated instead of spending money and time on immigrant programs the state should focus on providing affordable housing and education for their working poor and homeless. Many of the homeless people are families that have jobs but can’t afford to buy or rent a home

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich stated, “You have all these government programs going to illegal immigrants, “We don’t need new taxes, it’s already at a breaking point. Many high profile individuals have complained lawmakers don’t care about the homeless, they get rich off of funds from illegal immigrant and homeless programs. There is no incentive to fix overwhelmed cities and county problems.

This last year the city spent over $3 million dollars to fund of the office of Immigrant Affairs, which helps illegals legal issues. More money for lawyers and government workers but the homeless are still homeless. Over the past two years LA County spent $1.3 billion on Illegal welfare payments and the homeless population is growing along with the threat of infectious diseases.

Over in the town of San Diego streets are power washed with bleach every 2 days along with a new facility for people to wash staffed by outreached workers and mobil restrooms and hand washing stations for large tent cities

Governor Jerry Brown last October declared a state of Emergency, over 649 people people have contracted hepatitis A, 417 were hospitalized and there were 21 deaths. San Diego is hosing it’s sidewalks down with bleach to try and stop the spread of diseases from people shitting and peeing everywhere and all food services workers and first responders must be vaccinated.

If you have read my series on the history of vaccines you will see how poor living conditions, lack of clean water and nutritious food breeds disease. As I researched I started seeing a pattern of poverty stemming from corrupt governments, institutions, and corporations.

One thing that has made the problem way worse are laws banning plastic grocery bags which many homeless would use to discard their feces. Now that they aren't available they have no other choice but to defecate in the street. It's crazy how unforeseen consequences like this can occur.

I didn't know this @mathiasian, but then the cities would actually have to pick up the garbage. I've read all the big cities are falling behind collecting the garbage, especially in poor areas.

Sad to see this happen in America. As we are seeing a dwindling middle class, I think we see the extremes more. ..more 1% rich and more poor. They may not always get the help because the poor do not have the money to bring help. Reminds me of a third world refugee type country. Thank for sharing @reddust.

The middle class protected the poor from extreme poverty, they run small business and spend money in local economies, with the decline of the middle class we can see the decline in living standards for everyone except the people who profit from poverty and corrupt governments. America is suffering from a cancer and so is the rest of the world...If we can't cure it the rest of the world is doomed. There will be no place to find freedom.

...If we can't cure it the rest of the world is doomed

You are very right. I am saddened by this type of news coming from the world's bastion of hope — America. Oh America! My country and the rest of the world look up to you to away lead the way while we follow... Threat to America is a threat to the world.

I remember my first time ever being in LA. It was my first trip away from Ohio where I grew up. It was my first time ever seeing homelessness. I can remember being 14 years old and only knowing that California meant palm trees and piers by the ocean. It's sad that our media channels so often hide the reality of these cities.

I visited LA, San Diego, San Fransisco back in the late 70s visiting my relatives. I grew up in a little town of Oregon, we had hardly any homeless until the 80s and didn't want Californians moving to Oregon. Our governor at the time, I can't remember his name at the moment said, "Please come and visit Oregon but don't move here if you are from California. I didn't understand why back in 2007 when I started researching why America the land of plenty was having problems until I started reading about the homeless problems and Californias regulatory laws regarding land use, taxation, welfare, and over regulation coupled with horrible corruption within the government. Now I understand...It's sad to see this beautiful state ruined by corruption.

I appreciate how you address the complexity of homelessness. I'm new to the west coast states (I live in WA) and the differences between them are so distinct and interesting. Happy to have come across someone with some background research on the topic :) thank you for you work!

Hello @reddust

This is really a pathetic situation....

This last year the city spent over $3 million dollars to fund of the office of Immigrant Affairs, which helps illegals legal issues. More money for lawyers and government workers but the homeless are still homeless.

I think instead of this, why not direct such emergency fund to take people of streets first. Such a misplaced priority..

@eurogee

Any kind of fund will be looted by those who distribute it. I could write a book on how large charities and social programs are looted by corrupt administrators.

Oh I get now. I thought problem of corruption only exist in Nigeria; never knew its a global issue

@eurogee

Yes my friend this is a global problem and if we can come to gather, 6 or 7 billion people can clean out this rats nest....there are only a few 1000 people who own most of the land and hard assets in this world.

Our are very right

I thought America was the land of the Glory and riches n freedom , why don't all this guys have homes?

America has always struggled with greed and corruption just like any nation. However every hierarchy becomes corrupt over time. It's time to clean house.....

It's a difficult situation for these people. I hope for better days for them all, and us too.

I don't see anything changing until we clean up corrupt government officials unelected bureaucrats.

California, the land of bleeding heart (neo)liberals has long been ignoring its homeless.

Yes, bathrooms for homeless (open to the public) need to be concrete and stainless steel structures. And, they are few and far between Further, they are not consistent in their times of operation.

You would think that such a rich state would be able to afford bathrooms near where homeless congregate. But no, they would rather shoo them away. Or take away all of their shopping carts.

And the aid... imagine living 25 days a month in an apartment. Then spending 5-6 days on the street. Repeat. This is a common occurrence. Just, very sad.

It is true, every pocket of extreme poverty and slums are run by democrats .... I am not a liberal or conservative, I am a mix so I haven't taken sides. However one has to be blind not to see this pattern. Democrats make money from poverty and Republicans make money from proxy wars...howver Obama made money from both and he got the Nobel Peace prize!

Maybe its a Noble peace (of mind to the elites) prize?

I would have to say that I am a liberal... by the old definition. But, you would have to go back to before Reagan to find anyone who spoke of that viewpoint. I am all about changing to better overall, self aligning, anti-fragile systems.

I like Jefferson's views and he was a liberal in his time....the definitions keep changing so I decided not to wear a label ....It's all bullshit anyways...

a city that has not been lucky to be honest I'm very new when reading your post @reddust hopefully better future.

It's not luck, it is corruption :-(

hopefully the problem quickly finish Amin s

Really it is a pathetic situaltion of southern California. we should help to all like them .

We can't help them, they have to help themselves. Every time money is given to help the poor it ends up in the pockets of those who control and manage poverty.

may Allah help them.

I pray the people come together and their faith gives them strength to find a way out of the mess they let manifest in their state @mafi001.

This minde set of throwing money at the government to solve all our problems is the 1st thing people need to reconsider. Then get off their self righteous asses and bust a sweat doing something to improve the things they sit and complain about.

Right now our system is so corrupt even when we try and vote people in who will help organize and clean out corruption our voting system is rigged. Plus those who are getting welfare and help vote to keep the corrupt system going. People will have to come together and start helping each other and stop depending on authority.

thanks for sharing this news

I wish you all the best

As it has always been @travellingwomen, although in the past America gave more people a chance to climb out of poverty through their own efforts than any other country in the world. That's what I was taught...I don't know if I believe that anymore.

I feel good when ever I drop a comment on your post because you always shared a good contents and The second one is that you always read a comment and also show response for that and give a reply of that comment and in this way we create a communication and learn from each others

@upvote // @Resteem sir@Reddust

Hatred, greed, envy, fear are painful, life just keeps on going no matter what happens...right now we are suffering extreme corruption in our world and It is causing horrible pain.

yea i know u describe every thing sir

It kind of sucks because there really isn't a great solution for this. You can't house everyone on the streets and you obviously can't make it illegal. So long as there are the homeless, there will always be issues with sanitation.

The problem is housing is too expensive, cost of living is sky high, many of the homeless work but they cannot afford housing. Some of the richest tech companies are in California and have driven up housing prices...the articles I've read ...It's complicated and a horrible mess.

GREAT TO SHARE...
THIS TERM IS VERY IMPORTANT..
EVERYBODY SHOULD BE CONSIOUS..ABOUT IT..

RESTEEM DONE

Its really very informative post. I appreciate your struggle. Thanks for share news. Wish you avery happy and bright future.

really sad but true that currpotion breeds disease and that diseases took the country towards the distruction and the people of that country remain to be poor and hopeless!

very apprehensive for our less fortunate brother, it would be nice if we have excess wealth, we set aside a little to help them.

This is really sad , government should take more steps to help them. And people around of them should be careful about them to help .
Raise the humanity raise your voice and stand beside them .

refuge can get a help from their by giving food, cloth, medicine and proper sanitation system, soon they will get rid off.

it becomes a serious problem.
especially the cause is the government.

very good post

humans can only make so. not fix.

Corruption is a cancer: a cancer that eats away at a citizen's faith in democracy, diminishes the instinct for innovation and creativity; already-tight national budgets, crowding out important national investments. It wastes the talent of entire generations. It scares away investments and jobs.

I never knew the situation was that bad there. It looks and sounds like a third world country but it's Los Angeles! Unbelievable. And I wonder too where all those taxes go if there are still so many homeless people.

This is so shameful...... Doesn't speak well of the good california I used to know.
They really have to do something drastic to ameliorate the situation.

Goodmorning @reddust. Please just want to ask for a something , don't really know if it is wrong to do, if it is please pardon me and advice me on what to do.

Will America Choose Its Children Over Guns?

it's so horrible. How people live there!?
The world has to know what is going on around us!

correct ...so many its heaven down there....

corruption will only destroy us from inside :(

i am surprise this too exist in America...i thought it only happens in the Phiklippines and other 3rd world countries.....but I am appalled how my countrymen, my relatives and friends are so excited to migrate to america.....

Touching post indeed. What you’re highlighting here is a lack of humaneness. Even so called humanitarian NGOs are run to make $.

It’s so sad to hear of the devasting situations we let our human family live though. I feel like it points to an apatethic attitude of our population. Give them bread and circuses and we’ll stop asking questions and looking into things right?

I’d like to see the overpaid folks in power live for a week without a shower and try to sleep outside. There might be more compassion then...
