The ex-president of Kyrgyzstan who fled to Belarus has been sentenced at home.
The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan has sentenced Bakiyev to 30 years in prison. Previously, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Kurmanbek Bakiyev was ousted from the presidential post in Kyrgyzstan in April 2010. He then arrived in Belarus with the common-law wife and two children at the personal invitation of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. It is believed that he received the Belarusian citizenship in August of the same year.
In early 2016, Kyrgyz Ambassador in Minsk Kubachynbek Amuraliev said that Bakiyev problem remains on the agenda of the Belarusian-Kyrgyz relations.
