Being a first mover in a new industry is incredibly important, that's why bitcoin sort of controls the price of all coins. If the very first in the industry falls for reasons that affect the entire industry, then the rest will fall too. However, if other coins continue to do more than bitcoin has or can do, then we'll eventually see a paradigm shift to a new industry leader.
