I applaud them for actually having the gonads to do something like this, although I honestly doubt how much influence this is going to have the big international players switching to hybrid meats / the issue of livestock on global warming. It's not an unwelcome change (I think, to my knowledge Sonic isn't in my country so I cannot try it. Hell I didn't even know the chain existed until like 4 months ago after I saw a joke about it and Sonic the Hedgehog) and surely is a good step in the right direction but there is no way in hell it will fix the issue. It will look amazing on their triple bottom line if it works though.
Those comments from Brian you showed annoyed the shit out of me. They want the entire fast food industry to more or less suddenly go vegetarian? Normally when I read so asinine I'd write it off as a hyperbolic half-baked thought that popped into their head for a second and didn't actually have time to consider the wider ramifications of such a move but the way in which they write the comments makes me assume they have had time to think about this one. YOU WANT THE FAST FOOD INDUSTRY, THE THIRD MOST "FUCK YOU GIVE ME MONEY" INDUSTRY BEHIND FOSSIL FUEL AND PHARMACEUTICALS, TO CHANGE THEIR CORE MONEY MAKERS FOR ALTRUISTIC REASONS AND EVEN IF THEY SOMEHOW DID BY SOME MIRACLE DID MAKE THIS CHANGE AND IGNORING THE MASSIVE COST TO CHANGE MOST OF THEIR PRODUCTION LINE TO RECEIVE ALMOST NO MORE PROFIT IF NOT A LOSS THEY THEN EXPECT THE CONSUMERS WORLD-WIDE NOT TO NOT GIVE A SHIT THAT THE ICONIC PRODUCTS THEY HAVE GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO BECOME MORE OR LESS IMITATIONS? AND EVEN THEN, THAT THIS WILL FIX OBESITY AND GLOBAL WARMING. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Now what could actually end up helping the issue in a massive way would be to adopt methods like Allan Savory has described with just slightly changing the grazing patterns of livestock can not only massively increase the output of the livestock but also reverse desertification and get the soil to reabsorb carbon. Link to his Ted Talk and even though I think Ted Talks are a bunch of wank 90% of the time, the work this man has done is amazing:
I gave 22 minutes and 19 seconds of my life to watch that video, and it was well worth it. Although I would say that he isn't a very engaging speaker, if not for the subject matter being interesting I would have difficulties keeping my attention on him. I always like a good dose of fact. I've not actually known this before - Thank you for posting it!
Brian was beyond annoying, and I wanted to actually SAY that in the video, but I already felt like I pushed enough of the point. The world runs on money. I would see what Brain was saying more feasible, you know, if we could hit the fast food industry where their pockets are. To do that, people in the majority would need to want and pay for the vegetarian opinions - WHICH WON'T HAPPEN! So long as the majority wants meat, you'll never get them to change their mind about whether or not to have meat on their menu. When it comes to comments on articles I usually don't want to reply to them, but this Brain gent really had me wanting to hit him with the fact stick.
