A court in Australia has convicted a Catholic archbishop for hurting child sexual abuse.
Archbishop of the Adelaide Philip Wilson is accused of being the world's oldest Catholic and convicted of this crime.
In the 1970s, New South Wales cleric James Fletcher had sexually abused his sons. Philip Wilson was then the priest's assistant. Although he was informed about the incident against Philip, he did not try to remedy it. Rather, they hide the story for protecting the image of the church.
The BBC and AFP said that he did not remember any memories of the incidents of sexual assault with the two boys abused during the trial.
Wilson, a Newcastle local court, said that when he was the Assistant Pastor of Maitland, he was not aware of the sexual abuse of pastor James Fletcher at that time.
But Peter Craig, one of the victims of torture, said another. He told the court that he was sexually abused at the age of 10. Five years after that, he told Wilson all the facts.
Fletcher was convicted in 2004 for sexually abusing nine children. He died in jail in 2006.
Magistrate Robert Stone Wilson did not take the time to die. Peter Craig's statement to him seemed rather justified.
Robert Stone told Australian Broadcasting Corporation that what he was told was a credible allegation. But the accused person tried to protect the church and his image without taking it into practice.
The lawyers appealed to Wilson to relieve him from Alzheimer's disease and four times in the case. But there was no defense.
Phillip Wilson will be penalized in June. His maximum can be 2 years in jail.
