Bangladesh has signed two agreements with Turkey to increase cooperation in the development of small and medium industries and increase institutional cooperation in the quality control of products.
The agreements were signed by delegations from the two countries in the presence of Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday afternoon.
One of the agreements was between Bangladesh’s MI Foundation and Turkey’s MI Development Organisation. The other was between the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution and the Turkish Standards Institution.
Prior to the signing of the agreements the two prime ministers held a private meeting. They then led their respective delegations during the bilateral talks.
Hasina greeted the Turkish prime minister with flowers after he arrived at her offices around 3pm on Tuesday. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali was also in attendance.
Yildirim arrived in Dhaka for his official visit on Monday night. On Tuesday morning he went to pay his respects to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Monument in Savar. He then went to the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum to pay his respects to independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhanmondi.
Yildirim is scheduled to visit the Bangabhaban to meet President Md Abdul Hamid Tuesday evening. He will then attend a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in his honour.
Yildirim will travel to Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday morning. He will then visit the Kutupalong Rohingya camp before returning to Dhaka and flying back to Turkey that same day.
