French Authorities response to 'yellow vest' violence Failing

in #news6 years ago (edited)

French authorities failed to prevent many protests from spiraling out of control this weekend. This has put the focus on the strategy for protests, despite efforts to try to avoid causing harm to protesters, many injuries were reported. On Saturday 700 Protesters were met by 5,000 police officers who were deployed in the capital. The number of officers deployed was to help minimize the destruction that had been going on for several hours prior to their deployment.

Protesters burned and looted many businesses which drew widespread criticism. Macron has promised a "strong" response. There is an anti-hooligan law pledge that would allow authorities to detain protesters pre-emptively specifically if you have a violent background. With pressure to quell the protests to minimize destruction how will they respond now that strong response has proven to have little to no impact?
