The American startup has introduced the electric truck Thor ET-One with a power reserve of 160 km and cost from $ 150 thousand, which is going to compete for the market with Tesla

Start-up from Los Angeles Thor Trucks presented a prototype of an electric truck ET-One, which is designed to compete with a similar model Tesla Semi. The creators of the project with a very unusual design promise to release their offspring to the market as early as 2019, but for now offer interested customers to try out an electric truck on the test drive.

Just note that this is not a full-fledged development from scratch to the finished product - the startup took as a basis a diesel truck manufactured by Navistar, equipped it with reinforced Dana bridges and installed electric motors Hydro-Quebec TM4 with a total capacity of 300 to 700 hp. (depending on the modification of the model). The battery pack is modular, can be assembled to the customer's requirements and achieve a capacity of 1 MWh. The truck's carrying capacity is 36.3 tons (80,000 lbs) - exactly the same as Tesla Semi's.

The creators of the model Thor ET-One have not yet opened pre-orders, but they have already decided on the price - the base version with a reserve of 160 km (100 miles) will cost $ 150 thousand, and the top-end with a reserve of 480 km (300 miles) - $ 250 thousand. comparison, the base Tesla Semi with a power reserve of 480 km costs $ 150 thousand, a more long-range variant with a power reserve of 800 km - $ 180 thousand and finally the most advanced premium version with the maximum equipment will cost $ 200 thousand.

Note that the two founders of the start-up Thor Trucks Dakota Semler and Giordano Sordoni are only 25 years old, while the project is financed from other Semler businesses, including a real estate company and his parents' winery. Both founders do not have technical engineering education, but they attracted specialists who worked for such automakers as Navistar, BYD and Faraday Future.

At the moment, the startup Thor Trucks is preparing for the small-scale production of ET-One trucks in 2019, and is also working on other projects involving the conversion of other formats to electric rails.
