Akeem Yekini, the younger brother of ex Super Eagles star Rashidi Yekini is dead

• He died on Sunday, May 6, in Ijagbo, Kwara state, and he has been buried according to Islamic rites
• Akeem was said to have been down with malaria for close to one week before his death
  The family of late former Super Eagles star Rashidi Yekini have been thrown into another mourning following the untimely death of Akeem Yekini.
  Akeem Yekini, 36, who was one of the two surviving brothers of Rashidi Yekini died on Sunday, May 6, according to the report reaching NAIJ.com from a family member.
  A family member named Tajudeen confirmed to
  NAIJ.com on Tuesday afternoon, May 8, that Akeem was rushed to the General Hospital in Ilorin on Saturday, May 5, before he died the next day after returning to his base in Ijagbo which is a town in kwara.

''He has been sick for a while, but last Saturday, he was in a bad condition in which we had to rush him to Ilorin where he was treated and we returned the same day.
''But on Sunday morning, he started coughing seriously and vomiting blood, and before we knew what was happening, he died in the process and he has been buried,'' Tajudeen explained to NAIJ.com .

Unlike his elder brother Rashidi who played for the Super Eagles scoring 37 goals, Akeem also chose football as a career, but he never had the same level of success like his brother..
His dream was to play in Europe or America, and in the process, he had numerous trials in Brazil and Denmark, but he never signed for any club.
His ordeal began after the death of his late brother Rashidi Yekini who died on May, 4 2012, as Akeem had no other means of livelihood than to go into casual work as a labourer
He was called for a trial in 2016 by local Nigerian club Gateway FC and Shooting Stars of Ibadan, but Akeem claimed he was had a serious ankle problem which stopped him from playing.
Until his death, Akeem Yekini lived together with his mother in Ijagbo, Kwara state. He is survived by two daughters.

Sikiratu Yekini is the mother of late Super Eagles star Rashidi Yekini. She confirmed that she has been living from hands to mouth since the demise of her son.
She also explained how her late son Rashidi Yekini started his football career when he was young.

President Muhammadu Buhari departed Nigeria for his scheduled medical check-up in the UK

• He is expected to return to the country on Saturday, May 19
• Some of his media aides where at the airport to bid him farewell when he departed
  President Muhammadu Buhari has departed Abuja for London where he is scheduled to meet with his doctors for routine medical check up.
  The presidential aircraft conveying the president and few of his aides took-off from the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja at 3.20pm.

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari were among those at the airport to bid the president farewell.

Others included members of the president’s media team Mr Femi Adesina, Malam Garba Shehu, as well as other presidential aides.

Garba Shehu had on Monday in a statement said President Buhari would on Tuesday begin a four-day trip to the UK on medical check up.
He said “in the course of the technical stop-over for aircraft maintenance in London on his way back from Washington last week, the president had a meeting with his doctor.
“The doctor requested the president to return for a meeting which he agreed to do.

Shehu added that the president, who would return on May 12, would undertake a two-day visit to Jigawa, which was postponed because of the All Progressives Congress’s Ward Congresses.
He said the visit would last between May 14 and May 15.
President Buhari first went on medical vacation on Jan. 19, 2017 and returned later than he planned and declared that he had never felt so ill in his life.
The president returned for treatment on May 7, 2017 and came back after 103 days.
Before leaving Abuja on Tuesday, May 8, Buhari received Letters of Credence from ambassadors of Netherlands, Republic of Botswana and Lebanon to Nigeria, where he stressed the need for sustained financial, technical and capacity building from the international community to mitigate the effects of climate change in the country.

The president announced this on Monday, May 7.
He will leave the country on Tuesday, May 8 and be back in the country on Saturday, May 12.
