Feeling harmed by smoking, a resident named Jhon (40) filed a lawsuit against two national tobacco companies, PT Gudang Garam and PT Sampoerna.
Citing Content, Saturday (7/6/2018), Jhon took senior lawyers Diego Sanchez and Azas Sulaiman from Solidarity Public Advocate for Tobacco Control Indonesia to smooth the pace.
"We filed a lawsuit against PT Sampoerna and Gudang Garam as business actors producing and distributing cigarettes consumed by our people from 1970 to 2002 so that he was addicted to and decreased quality of life level, "said Diego during a press conference in Paya Itek, Cibrek Sunday (6/2)".
To Gudang Garam, Jhon demanded compensation amounting to Rp 180,500,000 in compensation for the money spent by Jhon to purchase this cigarette product, and Rp 300 billion in compensation. Meanwhile, PT Sampoerna is required to pay compensation Rp 567.075.000, plus compensation worth Rp 600 billion. If totaled, the demand reached more than Rp 6 trillion.
In addition, there is one more location demanded to the two companies as health care costs Si Jhon. "For health costs later we will still count first," continued Diego.
He went on to say that the letter of his own demands was sent to two companies on May 6, 2017, while Diego acknowledged both new companies received him in early June.
While Diego explained, related demands posted his side will wait for compensation payments up to 6 days. "If not implemented, then there is a possibility we will bring it into the realm of law," he told Kontan after all event.
