According to many technology news websites, Microsoft has just acquired Github, "[t]he world's leading software development platform". What will this acquision mean for open source enthusiast?

"While GitHub is home to more than just open source software, if such a migration came to pass, it would be a very bad look both for GitHub and Microsoft. And, it would a particularly ironic turn, given the very origins of Git: the versioning control system was created by Linus Torvalds in 2005 when he was working on development of the Linux kernel, in part as a response to a previous system, BitKeeper, changing its terms away from being free to use."
tbh honest I don't think it will change much to the bad... probably it's in fact really for the benefit of open source. But I finally have to change my mind about Microsoft... to avoid inner conflicts. :P
It seems to me this acquision is a big threat to the democratization of the internet. Microsoft is a profit-driven enterprise and it is natural that they have a will to be/stay a monopoly while independent developers may only want to create benefit to society by publishing their work free and open. I am sure most will not be happy to be contributing to Microsoft.
