According to Turkish Daily, HurryYetDailyNews, The Zika Virus "was first detected in 1947 in Zika forest in Uganda." The Zika Virus was a minor or isolated thing for quite some time.

2015-2016 was big for Zica. It was identified in Brazil in April of 2015 How a Ugandan virus got to South America and mutated, no one knows. It got to South America right on time for the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.

According to Wikipedia,

"It was estimated that 1.5 million people were infected by Zika in Brazil, with over 3,500 cases of microcephaly reported between October 2015 and January 2016."

Whether the virus mutated as of late and disregarding how it reached South America, it has spread heartily already in the mosquito population.

In the immediate term, the virus is now believed to be transmitted in the Southern Texas, Southern Florida and Puerto Rico and throughout most of South America. Even though the main outbreak has abated, children are still being born and born in America with Zika related health issues. According to CBC News(Canada),

Areas with local Zika transmission, including southern Florida, a portion of south Texas and Puerto Rico, saw a 21 per cent increase in birth defects strongly linked with Zika during the last half of 2016 — when Zika was present — compared with the first half of that year

We will see if there is another flare up and where in the next 12 months. Contracting the virus when pregnant can be a horrifying ordeal. All the issues with the virus are not yet known.

As the U.S. is assessing their Zika damage, a lot of other countries are too. Israel is assessing just what related viruses could bring their way.

From Haaretz,

Four viruses in the same family as Zika can also infect fetuses in the womb, and two of them cause fetal defects and death in mice, scientists warned Wednesday in the journal Science Translational Medicine. One of the four is West Nile virus, which is endemic to Israel.

Israel "Proper" has only, according to Israel Health Ministry, "an average infection rate in of 88 people a year." Unfortunately, those squalid Palestinians peoples virtually breed mosquitoes. Could be bad news for "Palestine."

What's the deal with these viruses?

Sort:

Almond Status - Activated! By next year, There could be at least 1488 cases of Zika in Tel-Aviv alone.

Where are you coming up with these figures?

It was prophesied. If not this year, definitely the next. The only way Israel won't face a Zika pandemic is if they open their borders immediately, and let in millions of Sub-Saharan Africans!

That would be suicide. They would face all kinds of problems if Israel opened their boarders.

Nope. Diversity is Israel's strength. They need the immigrant's tax dollars to fund their pensions.

Well, I never thought about it like that. You have a point. Israel is going to enter a period of multiculturalism. If we try and push it on them, do you think they will resent us for it?

Probably, but it's necessary. Maybe we can send them some of America's Illegal Aliens. It would be a win-win for everyone.
