Trade tensions between the US and China intensified this week when President Donald Trump announced plans to raise tariffs on goods from China up to $ 60 billion.
China's Commerce Ministry on Friday urged the US to avoid a greater risk because it is not afraid to engage in trade wars.
"I am well aware in the US and China, there are many cases where everyone does not benefit, where the benefits are not balanced.
The Chinese government announced plans to impose tariffs on imports of US goods totaling Rp 41.4 trillion.
The Chinese government is also preparing a list of 128 US products, which could be charged if the US continues to impose high import tariffs.
The plan follows President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% import tariff on goods from China on Friday (23/3/2018)
President Trump has instructed US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to impose tariffs on imported goods from China with a total value of around Rp 828 trillion
China's Ministry of Commerce will consider a 15 percent tariff for a number of US products, such as dried fruits, grapes, and steel pipes as well as 25 percent for recycled pork and aluminum products.
"We intend to impose tariffs on certain US imports to offset the losses incurred against Chinese interests by the tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum," said the ministry spokesman.
As is known, according to Trump, the case of intellectual property rights theft committed by China has been detrimental to the US.
"We have a severe intellectual property theft problem with China which has an impact on the value of trade reaching hundreds of billions of US dollars per year.
To compensate for such losses, the US government decided to impose a tariff of 25%.
The products that will be charged for tariffs are temporary aerospace products, information and communication technologies, as well as machines. Some products will follow in the near future.
