The former president of the United States Jimmy Carter warns that Kim Jong-un wants to save his 'regime' anyway, even with a preemptive strike.
In a snippet of an interview published on Saturday in The New York Times, Carter alludes to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and labels him as "unpredictable" while expressing concern about the possibility that Kim does something "preventive" if he becomes convinced that the US president, Donald Trump, will act against him.
The former president reflects that North Korea now has advanced nuclear weapons that could destroy the Korean peninsula, Japan and some territories in the Pacific, "perhaps even our mainland," Carter said.
Also, it emphasizes that USA. has exaggerated the influence of China in North Korea, especially in Kim Jong-un.
"As far as I know, Kim has never been to China. Kim Jong Il, the exile and father of the current leader of North Korea, went to China and was very close to the Chinese, "he adds.
Carter, who served as the US president. between 1977 and 1981, also says he is willing to go to North Korea on a diplomatic mission to the Trump Administration in the midst of escalating tensions in the Korean peninsula.
Moreover, he says he had spoken with National Security presidential adviser Herbert Raymond McMaster but has so far received no response.
Tension has risen unusually in the Korean peninsula, following Pyongyang's nuclear tests, and US military measures. and its allies, including South Korea, in the region.
North Korea insists that its military escalation is a response to the military threats of Washington and its allies. The first, according to analysts, aims to bring about a change of government in the Asian country once the danger posed by its nuclear weapons has been sorted out. For its part, Pyongyang has threatened to carry out an 'unimaginable' attack on the United States.
it looks as if we are waiting for someone to make a move first
Carter is much better at foreign policy now that hes not president.
