Daily Beast’s Kevin Poulsen on Whistle Blower Retaliation in American Intelligence Community

in #news7 years ago

On Feb 11, 2018, Daily Beast’s Kevin Poulsen had an interesting article titled: “U.S. Intelligence Shuts Down Damning Report on Whistleblower Retaliation.” At the top of the article, it asserts the watchdog’s report found only once did intelligence bureaucrats find in favor of the whistleblower retailiation in 190 cases related to fraud abuse or criminality reported up chain of command.

When people like former CIA Director and likely Secretary of State Mike Pompeo call whistleblowers like Edward Snowden who revealed constitutionally questionable mass surveillance “traitors.” The US government will kill citizens without Article III trials, even in abstentia, like Anwar Al-Awlaki, once declared enemies of the state. It will rendition and torture people to black sites, and hold people indefinitely without Article III trials, and even force feed them if they try to starve themselves to regain a final sense of self determination. Snowden and Assange, are faced the wrath of these actors, so when we discuss their actions I think we should put it in context. And this report puts it even more in context.

The sole case where whistleblowers had some vindication out of 190, took, only over two years, 742 days. Some took longer, one case from 2010 still was not resolved. The Intelligence Community’s IG’ report was nearing completition after a 6 month inspection, but may have been aborted in April by the new office head Wayne Stone, after discovery one of the inspectors was also a whistleblower in a federal lawsuit with the CIA. The report was not discussed in the semiannual report to congress, and took 3 years of staff work. It is still not public, thus may not exist for all I know—but the IG office declined comment on the report.

The IC IG probe was staffed by six experienced bureaucrats, 3, from IC IG staff, and three others, one each from DIA, CIA and FBI.

No people might get mad for rewarding begging, recommend not asking for upvotes if you want to be successful here. Some people downvote that kind of comment.

yup, if you are going to be a whistle blower probably better to flee the country first like Snowden. On the other hand if you want a taxpayer funded sex change operation..

idk, manning seems to have clearly acted out of conscience, very ridiculous to murder journalists and cover it up, must wonder how such an insane conflict that leads to that could have any pretense of justifiability.

First, I'm following you because of copyright-free material. I write books and self-publish them. I always thought copyright existed to protect me. Then I read Culture vs. Copyright: A Diary of a Naive Philosopher, by Anatoly Volynets. He traces the origin of modern copyright law. It was meant to protect monopolies, not individuals. I'm adjusting to the idea of publishing copyright-free material. As for whistleblowers: at the risk of sounding paranoid, nobody is safe. I look at the cult of personality that has evolved around the president, and then I see all the instruments of power that have accrued to government. Powers the people relinquished in the name of security over the years. This is almost a government by fiat. Where is the check on power? Who or what will protect a whistleblower, or anyone who offends? Secret courts in the name of national security, literally judicial black holes. And no leaders of courage that I see who are willing to protect Constitutional rights--unless it's the Second Amendment. But that doesn't really take courage does it?

yea ridiculous the world we live in, would love to check out your copyright free stuff, I would love to make a bid bot and give free upvotes to people creating copyright free material.
