Russia will supply another ten Su-35 fighter jets to China this year as part of a $ 2.5 billion deal. Beijing has so far received 14 units of Sukhoi multipurpose jet fighters.
The plan to dispatch the ten fighters has been confirmed by Russian state weapons company Rostec in a statement at the International Economic Forum in St Petersburg held May 24-26, 2018. The short statement was published by Interfax on Thursday (24/05/2018).
In 2015, Rostec and the Chinese government signed an agreement to procure 24 Su-35 fighter jets with a contract value of USD2.5 billion. By 2016, four units of the fighter jet are already shipped to Beijing and ten others have been delivered by 2017.
The Su-35 jet is a fifth-generation Russian fighter jet. In addition to China, Indonesia also purchased about 11 units, some of which will be delivered in October this year.
China itself has actually developed a fifth-generation stealth fighter, Chengdu J-20. NATO also has a fifth generation fighter development program, the F-35 that worked on US defense contractor Lockheed Martin.
The single-seat Su-35 features a sophisticated avionics system and has a supersonic speed of about 1.5 mach and is considered capable of surpassing the US-made F-22 Raptor fighter.
Another plus, the Su-35 aircraft has an infrared search and tracking system including non-electromagnetic sensors for remote detection. As well as jamming equipment capable of lowering radar ability of enemy aircraft. Includes radar to detect the signal from behind to fire SARH missiles.
Su-35 is also capable of traveling a distance of up to 4500 km. While the maximum fighter range of F-22 reached 2,000km.
