North Korea announced on Wednesday the release of former South Korean President Park Geun Hie's order and the head of intelligence for her presidency. According to the regime in Pjongjang, this is a reaction to the plot to murder North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

The North Korean party has demanded the Seoul government release Park and former head of South Korean intelligence agency Li Bjung Ho. The official North Korean news agency KCNA wrote that it was "revealed" that the "Traitor Park" in 2015 had plotted to kill the "top leadership" in Pjongjang.

This statement was jointly issued by the North Korean Ministry of State Security, People's Security and the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Reuters notes that the Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun wrote this week that Park had approved a plan to overthrow the North Korean regime of Kim Jong Una in 2015. Park was removed from office in March due to corruption scandal. The process is expected in custody.

The South Korean intelligence agency stressed that reports of conspiracy to kill Kim Jong Una were "unfounded". NIS did not comment on Pjongjang's demands for Park and Li's release.

According to "Asahi Shimbun," referring to sources familiar with Park's North Korea policy, the then South Korean president in 2015 approved the NIS-led plan to overthrow the North Korean leader.

Reuters notes that in May North Korea accused the US CIA and South Korean NIS of conspiring to use biochemical weapons to kill the "highest leadership" in Pjongjang. Also, the North Korean side demanded the release of Li.
