Before January ended, we'd already had over 4000 shootings in the US

Unlike many, I don't think the solution is ONE THING, ie limiting guns, background checks, mental health, etc. I think this is a unique problem that exists in the context of American gun culture and many things actually need to change.

What do people think about this?

The greatest man who ever lived on earth said once, "Return your sword to its place, for all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword"
Now we have guns, so replace sword to gun.
These words still valid now.
The problem is deeper and humans will not find the answer cause* we are the problems* with guns.
Keep on steemin'

It's not the guns - it's the people. That's what is the problem.

That asks the bigger question here, why are so many men going bonkers and shooting people in the US?

Ethnic differences, illegal migration, terrible education and overall mentality.

agreed...adding to that, GMO crap food, pesticide loads in water table, changing belief systems, no stability and big pharma. I read online (must be true) that all of the big story shooters in the US were on or recently on some type of pharma drug.

Hey this is unrelated, but I want to ask if you can join our Steem Thunderclap on Twitter. Here are the details: https://steemit.com/promo-steem/@stellabelle/join-the-thunderclap-today-and-let-s-make-steem-trend-on-twitter

Thank you!

Wao...steemit is going great

Very cool, I will check it out right now!

I agree with you. limiting guns, background checks, mental health, etc. will only do little in curbing the situation.

These kind of situation in on the rise here in Nigeria also.

I think that any of those things ALONE won't solve the problem, but all of them together with the realization that we have a major cultural problem with guns in the US would be a good move.

I am living in a country, where no one can easily go out and buy a gun. And there is no chaos breaking out, no one even thinks they need a gun to protect themselves. Guns do not solve problems ... they are just a violent means to end some problems ... (and creating a lot others while doing so).

What’s your population ?

Roughly 80 million

name your country and if it's a place i'd want to live, I will consider your point.

I wonder what strange preconceptions you might have about germany ...

no guarantee of free speech in Germany

Our nation is founded in blood and violence.
Our nation depends on death, destruction and violence to exist.
#WeThePeople pay more for military spending than anyone.
We export weapons and death...our number one export.
We have the most prisoners on earth!
...don't forget the Civil War still is the war that killed the most Americans...
And we have a history of violently enforcing our racial caste system...currently disquised as "mass incarceration."
Our nation drips in blood...we live for spreading destruction...look at the most recent cases of Libya, Iraq, etc.
And we force our soldiers to commit war crimes, then return home with no mental health support.
And we wonder why there is violence at home too.

i think it... i agree with you... i want to hear your new news... thanks for sharing....

i Agree with you...

Right Sir
The menace is alarming another solution should be incorporated ,because the solution 1 is actually hunting us .

It seems to be more than just availability indeed.

They are the commonly used tools to solve certain problems, for instance people who are afraid will get a gun, some will feel responsibility and get a gun, some are angry that they are not seen or listened to and they also get a gun. And list goes on and on.

It is just the tool that people are used to. In some other countries people take karate lessons or a knife.

I think on this issue, Americans need to start looking at other countries for good examples on how to handle this issue. @davidpakman

I Agree in the uk if we ever had the freedom you guys have regarding carrying weapons that would cause chaos and havoc

Limiting control of certain people in the state governments will also help. States that have a noose on gun owners are the highest in the nation for gun violence.

I agree with you, that the American attitude towards guns is the main problem, but there is no short way to fix that.

The only ways to change the attitude of an entire country, would be to either hold awareness (read propaganda) campaigns like they did with cannabis or to educate the next generations on the dangers of guns and wait for the older generations to die out.

If you want to diminish the shooting counts, restricted gun owner ship US wide with background checks would be one step in the right direction, I think.
But there is also the problem of all the people, that own guns today. Just enacting gun control would make a lot of those guns illgeal possessions and could therefore potentially create a giant blackmarket. You would have to thin out those guns somehow. I could imagine a campaign in which the state offers gun owners compensation for their guns, just to throw in an idea of my own.

I agree on this...americans needs ideas from other country

Its really a menace and needs to be curbed, means of curbing should be set aside by the Government.

@davidpakman its good you found it burdensome and decided to update us on that.

Nice work

the reason for the shootings could be this crypto blood rn

When will you suggest dealing with the issues that made people shoot someone instead of giving them a pass over and over again by blaming the guns?

I whole heatedly agree. Taking the gun rights away from every day citizens will only give those that abuse power, well, more power.

I would disagree that there is not ONE thing. That one thing is human nature. Its an impossible thing to change 100% without the obvious terrible things things that would come with it.

Its human nature to want what others have, take what you want, hate others for no reason, be emotionally unstable etc. The limitation of guns, conduct of background checks, and so called "screening mental health" could help but they will never prevent crime 100% so that must be accepted by all.

Accepting that reality comes in too choices, are yourself or don't arm yourself. A lot would tie that to the notion of be a victim or refuse to be a victim.

In the end, criminals will always break the law and find ways to do so to have an advantage in whatever crime they conduct. Gun violence is innevitable and "gettting rid of guns" will only remove guns from good citizens.

I will 100% agree that we do have a problem though.
