Five islands have disappeared over the past decade in the area of Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean, according to FranceTV, citing a scientific study conducted by Australian scientists. The research, published on the website IOP Science (Research Letters), says it has happened due to the rise of water levels and coastal erosion caused by global warming. The study is based on aerial photographs of the archipelago made over the past 70 years. According to experts, the islands had their own diverse flora, even though they were uninhabited. They were also used as temporary parking by the local fishermen.Scientists warn that the six coral islands of the archipelago are threatened due to rising water levels in the oceans.
