Unfortunately, the Reuters article makes no mention of Western countries' views on this matter. This is frightening because Western Countries' leaders should be making open public statements about this state of affairs. The article does say that this is just the latest in a dozen or so similar actions by African countries within the past couple of years, but makes no mention of the gravity of such controls over populations.
Western countries also have kill switches in place for the case of overwhelming civil unrest. The more it is seen as normal and accepted by countries in other parts of the world, the more likely it is that Western governments will not think twice about using such practices against its own peoples.
