Rare Aurora captured in California-Strong Solar storms, including a massive solar filament released today

Today, a long dark filament of magnetism lifted off the surface of the sun. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is recording the action, which is producing aurora's much further south.

As the filament moves through the sun's atmosphere, it could propel a coronal mass ejection (CME) into space--much like the one that sparked a strong geomagnetic storm on May 28th. Solar events are being monitored on coronagraph that could produce images for evidence of a CME
