The majority of the mainstream media will certainly defend themselves against accusations of reporting "Fake News."
However, it's becoming more and more clear that they will only report the things that benefit and "confirm," their political stance while using propaganda to do it.
The media does primarily report on politics and often use their own political standing to influence elections, and it's not far-fetched to consider that they are even paid to report specific news that will expand a governmental agenda. During the most recent presidential election, the media failed in their efforts to sway voters, and rather than recognize that the American people are aware of their tactics, they seem to be getting more and more blatantly biased in everything that they report.
It's no secret today that nations use the media to sway the views of the people into supporting their agendas. In order to keep this article a bit shorter, I won't go into all of the historical proof. I will, however, write an article just on that subject soon.
With alternative news sites and social media, we often see news stories that the mainstream media did not report simply because the story itself contradicted their own agenda.
Before the expansion of the Internet, people had little to no way of knowing if the media was reporting the truth and most didn't question the things reported on MSM. Today, it's easy to look into what is being reported, and so rather than reporting complete fictitious news, the media only covers stories that justify and sway the masses into believing whatever political views they wish to control. Reporters, very often share their own opinions, which are sometimes absolutely ridiculous, and they really believe that people will go with it, because, well...they said it.
Here is one excellent example of this: (Note: Some images may be graphic)
