Thanksgiving in America can be a day where former President Donald Trump can act as though he is saving lives by "pardoning" or giving clemency to turkeys. The two turkeys chosen this year are named Waddle and Gobble! You’ve got to feel bad for these birds; they’ve been selected for fame, fortune, and a very brief stay away from the meat grinder (so they can create the photos and tweets of “Look how compassionate I am)!” Of course, there are also 46 million more turkeys out there waiting to find themselves on someone’s Thanksgiving table.
In classic Trump theatrics, he shows mercy towards two turkeys and everyone takes pictures and videos as if he was able to figure out how to end world hunger! Meanwhile, those million-plus turkeys will join the ranks of dead turkeys tomorrow! So now we are supposed to applaud for what those turkeys received? I’m not convinced that two turkeys saved make up for the deaths of millions! The absurdity of the situation is truly peak Trump!
Year after year, we are subjected to this same Tory. There is little point in it after the first few years. Two animals are picked for the photo op and called “grace.” The rest of the story does not matter to them, as it does not help to create their narrative.
Trump saves two turkey, everyone else gets a meal, and the press capture this moment and pretend it's important. Turkey Waddle and Turkey Gobble receive their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for celebrity status, and Trump appears enlightened even if only for 24 hours. Well done! What an uplifting thought to ponder.
