"Stress, one of the main causes in the appearance of tooth decay"
Stress is one of the main causes of the appearance of decay in the teeth, producing a lowering of the defenses that, in turn, causes a decrease in the production of saliva and causes the acids to become increasingly intense, attacking directly to the enamel of the teeth. This is explained by the medical director of "Vitaldent", Gustavo Camañas.
For this reason it is essential to go approximately every 6 months to the dentist and not wait for the caries to "hurt", since "90% of the small caries that are treated do not hurt because they only affect the enamel".
In addition, stress also has a close relationship with halitosis, causes herpes to "reactivate" and is the first cause of bruxism. This last behavior, which affects 20% of the adult population, causes headaches and neck pain.
On the other hand, the appearance of herpes is associated with moments of punctual tension, such as, for example, exam periods. "Herpes is produced by a latent virus that is located in the facial nerve and is activated when faced with a stress situation, by the consequent lowering of the defenses, or in immunosuppressed people," explains Gustavo Camañas. halitosis, which affects approximately 60% of the population, the decrease in defenses as a result of prolonged stress over time, makes the millions of bacteria found in the mouth have a greater chance of causing oral conditions.
