BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 A.M.) - The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) suspended their offensive in eastern Syria this week after the Turkish military began striking their positions in the Aleppo and Al-Raqqa provinces.
The U.S. Coalition's Spokesperson Captain Bill Urban confirmed that Syrian Democratic Forces suspended their offensive, but added that it is only a temporary measure.
"The Syrian Democratic Forces have temporarily suspended offensive actions against ISIS in response to cross border attacks by Turkey against SDF positions in Northern Syria. We anticipate this will be a temporary suspension," Urban said.
The official called for the de-escalation of the situation and emphasized that "unity of focus on the defeat of ISIS is imperative."Turkey attacked the Syrian Democratic Forces in the cities of Tal Al-Abyad and Kobani (var. Ayn Al-Arab) this week, forcing the latter to redeploy several units to the Turkish border in order to protect their territories.
