I think my favorite thing about steemit is the concept of the reputation score. I think it can help filter out the spammers and scammers. Yes, I have a family. Did you check out my blog? I am building a cafe racer motorcycle from a 1986 Yamaha Virago. I post the progress every few days. I also post pictures I take from time to time on my travels.
