Why doesn't anyone swear on Steemit?

Where the fuck is all the fucking swearing?

[WARNING: This post may contain course language]

What the fuck?

Hi, I come from New Zealand and I joined Steemit few days ago. In New Zealand every man and his sheep (we have a lot sheep in New Zealand) fucking swears. You can call your own Nan a fucking cunt and she won't bat an eyelid. I also spend a lot of time on the internet, and just like New Zealand, everyone loves to swear their fucking tits off.

In every corner of internet there is a constant stream of shit, ranging from the short description of your mother given to you by an un-loved 12 year old in the comment section on Minecraft video to the paragraphs and paragraphs of why what you do is misogynistic written by upset feminist. But why on steemit is there nothing but a nice, polite and humble community. From what I've seen, I have never seen anything negative and even more surprising, I have never even seen a single shit or fuck on this site.

Now, I know that there is probably someone out there right now writing a post about how much they love swearing or some shit, but it's so so rare to see anyone talk so informal that they swear on this site. I'm really not used to seeing this amount of formality in a sites community and it somewhat scares me.

Why the fuck?

I have few theories on the lack of course language on steamit; first being the mature users of this site, I would guess the average user is in their mid 20s to early 30s and with very few people of younger age, I would image that would explain the lack of immature responses. My second theory is that the, so called, toxic people of the internet have yet to discover Steamit , and we must brace ourselves for that day.

This overly formal or lack of informality phase is not going to stay the same for ever. I'm sure over time as steemit grows into a widely diverse community that swearing will become more and more common.

Fuck this

By now you must of thought why the actual fuck is this a problem and I'll fucking tell you. I like when people give there honest opinion, if someone thinks I should shut the fuck up, I want them to tell me to shut the fuck up. Too many people comment some shit like "wow this post is amazing", this is complete bullshit. We more people speaking honestly, saying "fuck this post is shit". We need to stop caring about people's feelings and say some fucking real truthful shit.

Please tell me what you think, and I fucking dare you to actually honestly criticize this, extra points if you swear too.

Sort:

Why did you only do two posts on Steemit and then fuck off - are you a thick cunt?

The lack of expletives on Steemit may be due to the fact that the market rewards thoughtful, loquacious posts that add value to the reader. What is valuable about a post full of cheap words we've all heard before? When I login to Steemit I want my mind expanded and my perspective broadened. Embellishment is best achieved with a thesaurus, not a gutter.

Fuck is the most useful word in existence nothing else comes close.....

It is if not over used. If someone uses it very frequently it loses virtually all of it's impact. It is a word I use when I am truly shocked or angry. If I used it all the time or frequently it would lose that impact.

Any word that replace a full stop or comma or even an umm or like but also be offensive is magical. Fuck is probably the most versatile word that exists.

Kind of subjective. If people use it a lot it becomes meaningless to me. It only truly is noticeable to me from people I don't normally hear it from.

Holy shit, yes! I want people to discuss and argue, to see and understand different view points, but instead it's a bunch of short compliments that really mean very little.

The small encouragement may mean little to you, but to the writer it's an incentive to continue creating original content. A burst of confidence, if you will.

Okay, it may make you feel good, but is it actually honest? or is it just a nice comment to get upvoted? is it critical and does it help you to improve? I'm not saying nice comments are bad, I'm just saying mean, honest comments (when constructed well) prove to be more helpful.

Have a few cents!

thanks bro

I don't swear because I like getting money :D

hahahhahaha I think this is very true for many users, I think this might be the downfall of this reward system: people say what other people what to hear for the sake of money.

Give it a few months. When 4chan and the Reddit refugees get her in some number. I will welcome this diversity.

I totally agree, we need more weird, wonderful and out right offensive people in this community, the wider the variety the better.

Because people are imbeciles nowadays and will flag anything controversial and fear getting flagged too. Bunch of politically correct assholes, die slow motherfuckers!

Well said, people nowadays are scared of offending people which totally constricts their own freedom to say what they want on the internet.

Yep. This is it. I've only made two posts on Steemit so far. But they were both decently long, and I've definitely been trying to use "fuck" and other expletives at the same rate I do in real life.

Fucking good on you bro, you're making this a site better place.

Because some of us are a bunch of fucking scared little bitches. I think context is what is important. I guess some people correlate swearing with lack of intelligence which obviously isn't true.

Yeah I very much understand. I know a lot of current users on this site are very smart and some are quite professional. Some people are just too afraid to say what they want because they might be judged.

If you are very sparing with your swearing they have a lot more impact than if you just throw them around like periods. :)

In my family for example if they hear me swearing they know I am truly angry. Where as if they hear one of my kids (adults) going through a swearing age they really have no clue when they are truly angry because they use swearing as if they were periods or commas in a sentence.

Plus, even though they are simply words. Consider it respect for others. If I choose to swear I may offend someone and in reality I can say the same thing I wanted to say without the swear words.

I've seen no rule stating you cannot swear. I haven't seen anyone get bashed for it. They simply seem to intuitively and almost hive mind like decided not to do it.

You have a great point, swearing is used in my many different cases, some more effective than others and along with this it may or may not cause people to be offended. But in all honesty I think everyone has the right to say exactly what they want and shouldn't be scared about what people think even if they just want to add impact or if they just like to say fuck.

Yeah I wasn't telling anyone not to say it. I could care less. It is a word. I don't think people should be offended by a word. If I want to offend you I can put words together in a combination that I assure you would do a better job than swear words. :) I was merely SPECULATING as to why maybe people are not swearing much here. Intuitively they didn't think it was necessary would be my guess.

Very nicely put, I don't think I could agree more. People get too upset just by the use of a single word.

FUCKING SHIT!!

Don't tell me what to do you fucking cumguzzler

I was wondering that myself - I just dropped an f-bomb in a post and thought, "oh, uh...are we not supposed to do that here? Eh, fuck it." ;)

Fuck knows? Maybe the flags are scary.

fuck those flags

When people swear I think it just tend to make their content perceived like less reliable and I believe that the Steemit community globally want to put the best content they can. They don't want others to give a negative note or comment on their content just because it swear in it, fuck no.

I think some people completely dismiss an authors quality content because he/she has chosen to include 'offensive language', in their work of art. People should open their minds and accept all forms of literacy.

I totally agree with that.

I fucking swear on here.
