Yesterday was our day to go to the Northwest Washington Fair in Lynden, Washington. We make this annual pilgrimage to spend the day with a good friend of ours whose birthday occurs during fair week every year. This year found us attending on the last day of the fair for the season.
One of the first things we attended shortly after gaining admittance, was the horse show. They have a multitude of draft horse events during this show. There was first the drill team of 8 draft horses being ridden as you would ride a regular horse-only bigger! They did well with their precision drills.
Then came the wagons being pulled by the draft horse teams.
I really like the look of the long fur on their hooves.
There were six or more of these wagons all in the outdoor arena all at the same time. Then, they turned them lose to run amuck! We watched a couple of times where I thought for sure they were going to collide, but the drivers knew what they were doing! It was fun to watch.
They had an interesting event with the horses that they had never had before. The horseback riders were to fire a black powder Colt 45 single action revolver while galloping at full speed. They had set up posts with balloons on them so they had targets to shoot. It was pretty incredible. See the video for the experience.
Of course, just like all fairs, there were plenty of farm animals to see. I am especially fond of the goats as I used to have a Nubian goat we brought from Colorado when we first moved here. I had raised her with a bottle and she thought of me as mom. She was a special girl. So, I like to see what the Nubians look like every year and give them some scratches behind their ears.
Such a sweetie!
This gal was having none of the fair nonsense! She was more interested in the food!
There were the smaller farm animals as well, such as rabbits and guinea pigs, pigeons and all kinds of fowl. This cute couple caught my eye in the chicken barn.
Alas, all good things must come to an end. It had been a long day and my feet were done! The lights on the ferris wheel were brilliant against the night sky.
Have a nice day and thanks for stopping by!
Love this picture brings much joy!!!
I’m glad you like it!😇

I enjoyed the target shooting video. Those riders are very skilled to be hit the target.
That, they were! Also-the horses never reacted to the gunfire!🙀
