State of mind

in #negativity11 days ago

Read a post earlier that made me think a little about things and I guess the current state of things. I can be quite a cynical person when it comes to the general way the world works, I think that's probably quite normal in this day and age. News are all about the bad things that are happening because they know that's what will get them traffic so indulging in taking in some of that info daily can put someone in a pretty terrible mood and even become quite jaded over time.

Even though I've kinda quit reading r/worldnews or scrolling Twitter much lately, I'm still quite cynical when it comes to how the world works. I feel like we as humanity have passed the "test of time" where it was all about competition because that drove innovation and made life easier. We are now modern enough where we could all survive and be happy with what we have. I'm not saying remove all drive for people who want more, I'm just saying why do we need to struggle for things due to the economy. It's weird to me how most movies and TV shows you see these days use the "overworking" to fill up plots, I know it's cause that's what most people are used to but the fact that it even is a thing is wrong to me. Having 2+ jobs, barely making ends meet, never having time for your family/kids just so they can get basic needs like shelter, food, education, why the fuck is that even a thing? Who's mainly benefiting from it?

Okay, before I sidetrack too much, the point of this post is that even though there are a million different reasons to be cynical and negative, if that's all you ever point out and talk about you're not really going to do much in terms of changing things around. There's plenty of good things going on, especially here on Hive yet for some reason I see some people only focusing on the negatives instead of the positives, it's quite a downer to have to read.

The post in question was from someone I've noticed for some time now consistently talks negatively in comments and posts about hive, even though he is very active. I'm not saying don't mention the bad things, but why do some people never mention the good things? If they can't see the good things then why do they continue being here constantly. There's many in the same boat so it's not a complete shock to me or something I can't fathom, it's just a bit lame that they dismiss all the good and go around spreading negativity both on and off-chain.

Don't get me wrong, there's potentially a lot of people who only spread positivity too, maybe some to the point where it comes off as fake or with ulterior motives. I'm not someone who prefers sunshine and rainbows constantly or to shower the positive ones with constant support because that's all they talk about. I'd just prefer some balance.

I talk about bad things on Hive often too in posts and comments, I don't shy away from pointing towards issues or unfairness if I see it, but if I thought it was all bad or that the majority of things on here were negative to the point they'd outweigh the positives I would probably not be as active or here at all.

Could also be a general state of mind of people these days after the long weird period of the pandemic that lead many to be absent from real life and delve deeper into this internet shit many of us here are active in. Not sure, everyone took that in different ways I assume. For me that period wasn't that bad cause I've pretty much grown up being a "nerd" who spends most of his days on the PC doing various things but I can imagine for others it may have introduced them to a world they weren't ready for and to get that much of it at once since they didn't have much else to do when locked inside.

The saying "if you don't have something good to say about something, better not say anything at all" comes to mind. I of course don't mean censor yourself just because people hate negativity. Clearly things aren't working here as well as they could and we have a lot of room for improvement, it's more like "if negativity is all you spew, then maybe take a break".

Oh well, maybe this kind of activity is triggering me extra now cause of the markets which I'm sure it's been affecting others too. It's important to remember what it is this platform strives for and the advantages it enables people, even though things aren't perfect, Hive still has insane advantages to give users they can't get anywhere else and that's worth mentioning no matter the price or general sentiment of stakeholders.

This is true, as are many other things you say...however, the mind works in mysterious ways and if the mind is overly negative (possibly due to things completely separate from the blockchain/crypto) then it is often perceived to be much easier to 'give in' to it rather than finding the courage and fortitude (often self-honesty) to begin the climb upwards. I think, if everyone was honest, we've all been there at some point, or will be.

"if you don't have something good to say about something, better not say anything at all"

Also definitely, but sometimes getting it out at arms length (out of one's head) can have positive benefits through being able to gain some perspective on it, see it more clearly so to speak. Of course, negativity can be difficult to see through as well.

In respect of Hive...I don't know who you are talking about but for sure a break might be needed...even just a break from the same old dialogues in posts/comments, (write something totally different) but maybe a week or so off completely as well.

I'll be honest and say that sometimes I feel a little dismayed about a few things on Hive/blockchain and it can be difficult to hold that in, not let it come through in one's writing...I guess the focus needs to be on containment sometimes.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

I think of it as a choice of attitude. In certain moments, I can be a bit frustrated or cynical but I try and regulate that and only share the positive stuff with the public. Not that I don't have critical conversations or need a snap in a bad mood, I just consider it an honour to have the self-appointed responsibility of positively effecting the universe around me.

So many things going on these days that can have people in the mindset they are in but lets look at the internet and Hive. Instant, global connection to people and news. Powerful financial powers bombing those channels and miserable people who love company. We just have the choice as to what to do with that information and discover that happiness is a choice.

That and being a nerd at a desk doesn't generally equip us with the tools of a leader and it takes a little more practice to balance it all out. The spot light always comes with detractors and shit-throwing monkeys. I try and become unhittable and be an example in case someone is watching.

The rise of wealth inequality will continue until radical changes happen and laws are passed that do side with the poor to middle class. Working people sacrifice their time for basic needs to exchange for goods and services owned by the wealthy few. If the system has enabled the few to accumulate wealth after recessions on top of no existing laws that provide mechanisms to move that money off their hands back to the government and regular citizens, then wealth inequality will just continue running its course until it becomes a dystopian society much like cyberpunk manages to portray it.

I don't mind the negativity if I look at it from the lens of how much free speech people have within a platform. If we only see less of posts we disagree, it's probably not a pro free speech platform. I noticed this comparison when on reddit and twitter. As for Hive, I think there's actually more people with negative sentiments unexpressed than what it shows out there. The reason is that to freely express disagreement with the social norms here leads to social penalties if not for downvotes, the fear of retaliation by being deprived of curation. I would say, there are more incentives within the platform to shut up and ignore the obvious problems than be vocal about it. Not only do arguments cost one time here but these also invite social reward penalties so people tend to be averse about addressing some elephants in the room.

There are outliers of course. These are usually users that can afford to speak whatever they want, not bound by the norms, or nothing left to lose. The last part is for people that already been pushed beyond recovery that there's no longer need to wear the social mask. But most are bound by the norms and it's these silent ones that have a lot to say especially unpleasant ones because from a social reward standpoint, people are incentivized to keep their heads down.

Honestly, I think it's often easier to be negative than positive in many situations.

Covid wasn't really a tough time for me either because I’m perfectly content staying home and spending time with my family. It was actually kind of nice, we got to do a lot of outdoor activities, like hiking, that we normally don’t have time for. The trails were pretty much empty, so it felt like we had them all to ourselves.

The only thing that sometimes made me feel more negative was seeing my students' home lives during virtual teaching. Some of their living situations were really tough, and even though they were only five or six years old, many had almost no parental support, even when the parents were home. Honestly, it was pretty disheartening

I’m not sure, but maybe the people who are super cynical here invested money they couldn’t afford or bought into the idea that they'd strike it rich and never have to worry about money again. I really don’t know. Otherwise, if you're that cynical about everything happening here, why stick around? It can't be good for your mental health.

Maybe this person just finds it easier to express negative emotions rather than positive ones, but I can't say for sure—and honestly, I don’t want to waste energy trying to figure it out. I think everyone’s opinion is valid when it comes to where this community is and where they think it should be headed.

It's entirely likely they bought into the fantasy that Hive or crypto was going to make them super rich... and since that hasn't happened, literally nothing else will satisfy.

It's super important that we try our best to keep people's expectations reasonable, otherwise we end up with a bunch of negative feelings even though the actual network is pretty amazing.

It's still amazing as a platform if one discounts the earning side of things. I got a blogging space where my content and account doesn't get deplatformed, meet people living across the globe, and earn something on the sidelines just for sharing scribbled thoughts. These benefits get eclipsed by the weight of expectations to extract monetary value for the least amount of effort and time. It's not the blockchain, it's the nature of the market surrounding the blockchain that's the problem.

Exactly! I think people forget to do a comparison with everything else out there... it's incredibly hard to earn on shared scribbled thoughts elsewhere... often you have to build up a huge audience and work for free for years before you can earn anything. People can often earn on Hive from their first post.

I read a post that got me feeling like that too, recently, and I think I know the guy you're talking about 😉. I think it's the same guy.

I won't mention the name, either. I just hope he reads this post too and understands that he just needs to balance out and say the good things too. It would mean a bit more coming from him since his followers may have gotten used to the negative takes.

yeah it's just a bit unnecessary especially considering how anyone and everyone, stake or not can earn here if they put in the effort. sure we're not all getting rich like gambling on some dumb memecoins but doubt many make it all the way there either and most probably end up worse than where they started which can't be said the same for hive.

I always think you should say something. But yes things could be said in a better tone and I think it's important to see all sides and opinions in everything as it's swayed my own thinking a number of times.

If there's not evolution then we are all stuck and there will also always be bad actors that either want more or just want war. I feel we in the USA have become complacent of that over the years and are now paying the price as China, Russia etc have been building and learning. There's always going to be competition because 8.2 billion people all together are going to ever agree to have equal share and not worry about resources etc. It's wishful thinking and great thinking but it's just not going to happen. If we don't do it others will and those others will come out on top.

There are a growing number of people like that hanging out in Discord. It honestly gets tiresome after a while. I feel like maybe they invested some outside money and they are so underwater that they have to stick around. Otherwise I don't know why they would if it sucks as bad as they say here. I think there are definitely things that need to be fixed, but for the most part it isn't all bad.

We need to recognize the small joys that are present in our daily lives. It seems that only if it is wonderful is enough. But no! There are many small good things around us and realizing that they exist is the first step to being grateful.

You can continue to notice the world's flaws, but don't sabotage and ignore the small joys.

When people say only negative stuff despite the fact that there are underlying positive, sometimes I just think it's the overall personality of that person and not the realistic situation of that thing they're trying to be negative about.
When it comes to Hive, some people just wants to x100 their investment and a can't have patience at all, sometimes they just talk like it's only the price of Hive that's down, meanwhile they can just take positive and appreciate the small little things that are good

People spread negativity because their faith in a situation getting worse is higher than their faith in a situation getting better. We can't really blame them though. Their situation makes them say that and maybe they think that when they share it with others it will probably give them some sort of relief because then they realise that they are not the only one experiencing such things and helps them move past that see all the positive things in their life.

I think people complaining and being negative is common when their investments are down a lot. I guess there will be more of those types of posts especially now that BTC is going lower. I think what's even worse is when a person sold their assets but are still negative about things, instead of moving on. Some people just like being bitter I guess. I don't know who you're talking about but if they are consistently being negative and is starting to affect you, maybe you need to stop reading their posts for a while, or unfollow them.

Yeah, honestly I don't read them often except a recent post that I couldn't avoid reading as I was supposed to vote it as support for something else they do. It was especially weird since they're part of programs where we try to do things the good way and they mentioned a lot of the bad stuff that may happen on the platform by other projects/stakeholders yet not a single word was spent on the good which is weird since he's in the project himself so he should know about it.

And before you think it triggered me because of that that I'd feel like they should've mentioned/praised the project they're a part of, it isn't, it just reminded me of why I started to ignore their comments/posts in the past and how they hadn't changed much. Just disappointing.

It's simple though.... it's easier to complain about something than be part of the solution..

Also complaining is base and doesn't require any extra thinking... you just have to be present in the moment and curse the situation...

But a solution requires a sit and dig down... most people don't have that in them....

That's true I guess, kind of auto-mode comment when complaining instead of adding in something that might improve it.

For sure, it's a shame actually.... but put it in a different scenario....It's much much harder to wake uo everyday thinking and acting like today is going to be the day... and if you really think about it... life is life you'll get ups and downs... so just smile about everything that happens.. because you are indeed experiencing life at it's best.... is anything really bad or good or is it just stuff that happens? Like a blown tyre?

Okay it might be dragged way too far from what you actually wrote😀😀🤣🤣🤣

You know how this works. Some people are only happy if they can complain and usually these are the ones who like to pose as victims. Easier for them this way, instead of trying to make an effort to change something in better. The world is full of them.

why do some people never mention the good things?

By design :) They know the good things, but still their attitude is such that they won't spell that out. Ignoring them is the best thing we can do.

Positive. Negative.

Can't have the best of both worlds, when it's all one.

If not for negativity, you wouldn't be able to see negativity in a negative light. See how it's now positive?

Problem solved.

Stop making me think with your overly complicated sentences, ugh everything sucks here

lol sorry I didn't mean to break your brain again.

I know I can be hard on the place at times, but my goal is to always bring something positive out of it. Similar concept to that confusing sentence up there.

Hope you are doing well man, Sending some positivity your way!

Cheers, doing okay just a lot to do! Hope you doing well too!

True, I like to focus on the good side of Hive even though I see some negativity around and that has kept me going till date.

I believe that everyone had their own perspective about certain things happened in on and off of this platform, we are not in control of what they are saying rather positive nor negative. It's such stressing to see negativity around but it's their opinion, it's their feeling that they want to unleash, some of them might valid but some are just to spread negativity in order to start a confusion among who reads it, for me it's still a matter of respect for their opinion unless it goes too far to the point that there are already involved and out of control.

tendencies are more single households and more loneliness encouraged by tech advances

It is not ok to spread negative thoughts about hive, a bunch of negative people do that. Recently, there is a discussion about the price reduction of hive token. Time has not yet expired and nothing has happened

The worst of all what you say is not devoting enough time to the family to perhaps focus not only on work but on other activities and from personal experience lived recently with my younger sister who was seriously ill in the hospital, life is short and we must enjoy every moment as if it were the last, and also know that family always comes first.

#Hive has many advantages to offer us and even more so if we leave aside all the negative to focus only on the good that life has to give each of us. Family is the most important thing

Negative and complaining people will be found on and off the platform on a daily basis. That is why they use their publications to let off steam. The problem lies in the fact that they are not happy with the situations happening around them, but they do nothing to transform what bothers or disturbs them.

Nothing is perfect in life, but if we are not able to value the positive aspects, nothing will improve. The first change starts with oneself, we have to evaluate ourselves to analyze what we could do differently to obtain different results. For me it's all about focus: learning, growing and moving forward.
