I am amazed! You really don't take the easy way in learning to knit. I guess you already learned more stitch patterns than I (ok... that’s not too difficult, as I am a bit boring and often knit stockinette :-DD ) And I love how neat your squares are. They absolutely do not look as if you are a beginner.
And with the knitting style. I do not think that everything must be done fast but I am sure if you are comfortable with English style and really want to get faster that will be no problem. There are so many different styles and beneath every style are some people who knit crazy fast (sadly not me)
For me continental is easier as it is more like crochet (which I learned first) The "normal" western knitting which is mostly taught here is hard on my hands. So, I learned combination style which feels much better for me. If I were you, I would use the technique which is most comfortable for your hands and fingers independent from speed.
And Masterchef!!! I am envious. In Germany there were only two seasons and I do not think they will film more. But we loved it! (The English in cooking shows is sadly too difficult for me to understand, if not I would watch the US version)
