RE: How knitting and crochet helps to cope with pain and depression

As if I needed any more excuses for sewing!! (because a lot of these principles cross over to sewing and depression/anxiety in my case!) I especially like the point about the repetitive movements leading to a meditative state. It is kind of hypnotizing!

I'm sorry to hear that you get those kinds of migraines though :( They're so miserable, my heart aches for someone who gets them the way you do.

I would love to feel about sewing like you - but for me sewing is not relaxing, but the opposite. I am so frightful to make mistakes and I seem unable to envision the finished garment in 3D (so I often do not understand the patterns) ... But I have hope that I will learn it, because knitting was for me also tough in the beginning. It is great to hear, that sewing is such a valuable tool for you.
Thank you so much for your compassionate answer 💕💕

You're welcome! See, for me knitting is the most stressful because I'm so tense and awkward at it from worrying about dropping stitches (because I don't know how to fix it if I did screw up). Quilting sewing is fun and relaxing, mending or following patterns definitely are not haha.

Now crochet is super relaxing :))) I wish I could do it more but I rarely get a moment's peace to just sit still and crochet. At least with sewing, the kids are entertained from digging through my supplies or actively helping me :)

I'm resteeming this one because I can relate so much to the 3 benefits you describe. Especially the need to break that negative rumination!!

Thank you for the resteem!
And I was the same with knitting :-D But recently it suddenly became relaxing. Half a year ago, I would have said that crochet is so much better... :-D
And the rumination topic is very important for me, because I tend to fall into this trap very often. I don't know if you are interested but I wrote a post about helpful strategies some time ago. But it is nothing totally new.... perhaps you now all these tools already.

I hope you get some relaxing crochet/quilting time and send you hugs 💕

I love that article so much, I copied it into the notes on my phone ❤️❤️❤️ The third technique was entirely new to me, and I can guarantee just from reading it that it'll be a fantastic way to boot my butt up out of the doldrums!!! Thanks so much!

I am so happy that you found something useful!!! As I wrote above it is tough issue for me too and I am still working on not escalating my negative thought patterns. And rigth now I really need some of these techniques, because my father got suddenly very ill. I find it so hard not to assume the worst. Cross your fingers that all will be well. (I will now more on monday)
❤️❤️

I'm sorry about your father and I hope you get good news tomorrow!🙏🏻
