Hey, there's no higher compliment. The granny square style is used pretty extensively in a variety of different ways (there are whole blankets made as just one giant granny square). My grandfather has a small baby afghan framed in his living room made by his grandmother out of scraps of yarn in all different colors in the granny square style - she would've been born in the 1800s.
