Making a slip and putting in a sleeve with no problems

in #needleworkmonday7 years ago

Today I want to write how easy it is to make a slip in a dress of a child or in a dress; I have figured out that there are many tricks to make dressmaking very easy, today I am writing about two of them.

The first one is making a slip in the back of something. Never cut out the slip.

First put your facing on top of the back of your back side of your back pattern,

I always first make the slip and then cut it open. I will show you what I mean in a simple way. I use the facing of the neck and mark it with a pen and ruler to make lines to work on.

The reason being, that you know the size you want to make it and that you will work straight.

Once you have done that you can cut open your slip that is finished and you do not have to struggle on a small piece of material to work.

If you fold it out to the back you will have a perfect slit in your back.

Now you stith the shoulders together.

The second one is always put your sleeves in before closing up the sides of you garment it is so much easier and they fit in neatly.

Put the sleeve into the space you created when you closed the shoulder.

It will be easy and fit perfectly without a struggle.

Now you can close the sides and your garment will have a slip  and nice sleeves.

Now you finish the sleeve and side and you will have a perfect sleeve fit.

When you have done this you will be finished with a slip and a sleeve and you did not sturggle at all.

I made these in sample for you to better understand what I am explaining to you.

Always iron out every piece when you are finished, and I am sorry that I did not on the sample I made, but I do not have a iron here.

Please feel free to ask me in your replies if there is something you do not understand.

Have a wonderful day from me and enjoy your dressmaking.

Happy #NeedleWorkMonday!! Thank you so much for sharing this picture tutorial of making a slip and sewing on sleeves with us. Great job!!! I’m going to have a lot of samples to look back on as I learn how to sew!!! 😃

Thank you so much, I did not really know if they would understand, I am a bit old now but tried my best to explain as it is so easy..

You are very welcome :)

Wow. I just learnt something new. No knowledge is lost.

thank you for this.you show a easiest way to make a child dress.@bigbear

I love the pattern and colors in your material.
I keep forgetting needlework Monday. Resteeming to help me remember and remind others.

Thank you so much hope is understandable, my husband said, he does not LOL

Lol what do men know anyway?

LOL true know nothing about cars so same thing. I think.

My poor Mom tried so hard to get me to sew, she was excellent at sewing @bigbear I just had no inclination to sit and sew or knit.... ever!

I still have a pattern she wrote out, on how to make little boys shorts, I made one pair and that was that. Curtaining and bed throws on occasion when money was extremely tight, no patience (or interest). So glad we all different, this pattern should help many interested in sewing.

I really hope so joanstewart as it is really easy.

You are an experienced seamstress by the looks of your photos. I can even read and understand how to do this. Not an easy feat since my sewing skills are sorely lacking. Thank you for the lesson. 🐓🐓

Makes me want to get out my sewing machine. I’d love to see the finished product. Nice red :)

Awesome craft . . I'd like to see a video .
