I came across this photograph of a field of red poppies that I had taken a few years ago and it reminded me that Remembrance Day will soon be here again on the 11th November.
The Poppy is sign of remembrance to those in the UK and other Countries; we remember those who lost their lives in conflicts around the world.
The Royal British Legion have been using the artificial poppies since 1921 and the origins of the wearing of poppies to remember those who gave their lives in battle derive from the poem “In Flanders Fields” wrote by Canadian physician, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.
At a conference in 1920, the National American Legion adopted it as their official symbol of remembrance.
Some people are offended by it but as a former member of H.M.S. I am grateful to all who gave their lives and happy to show my respect "Lest we forget"
