I just wish they weren't so expensive; because they are so good!
I buy them as a treat or to go with a special meal!
My son @d-pend introduced me to these tomatoes.
Have you ever heard of heirloom tomatoes or grown any?

Lovely tomatoes. I love the flavor. I use them in salads or just with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Make them into special treats since they are pricey. We have a couple of good farmers markets nearby. They have good variety in season but prices are not really any better.

I am so used to tomatoes looking so uniform that this was a taste of fresh air @violetmed. Even when the tomatoes are organic, if you buy them in a supermarket, they will tend to all look the same.
The beauty of the photos to me is their variety... I get the impression they are very big compared to the sweetcorn next to them.
I have heard of heirloom varieties of vege. There's a seed swap at the local People's market - I think it's run by the Permaculture group.
Oh yes, they can be quite a bit larger than your average tomato. That's so cool that they have a seed swap!
They can be pretty tasty and amazing, some of them up to 2 lbs. The reason they fell out of favor is because newer varieties are more disease resistant. I think that's too big when the ideal size fits perfectly on a slice of toast - just cut it 1/2" thick and add bacon and lettuce! lol

Hi violetmed, between my neighbor and myself, we grow about 26 different heirloom tomatoes. They make the best tomato sauces when combined with a few varieties. They sure are the tastiest.

Yes she grows and sells thousands of plants every year to our local nurseries. Then she plants about 50 - 60 in her own garden for canning. They are all so different and so good.
howdy @violetmed! these are so healthy looking, I haven't had Heirloom tomatoes I don't think but from what I understand we should probably all be growing these huh?

I love those tomatoes, @violetmed. They are usually used by great chefs to decorate dishes. Reds are usually sweeter than yellows and greens. Its texture is a delicacy. Around here they are also expensive and are only available in certain seasons. You've already whetted my appetite! Happy afternoon.

These tomatoes are a delight and have thousands of antioxidants that help keep the body healthy and organic, adds other health benefits. The bad: They can last less than the others. I particularly love them. Thank you for sharing.
Yes, I have noticed that they do go bad faster than other varieties of tomatoes.
I've never seen them before, @violetmed! What do those tomatoes taste like? I googled them and they have lots of seeds. Here in my country there are some little ones called pear tomatoes and other round and very juicy tomatoes called margarita tomatoes. I will look for more information to know!
If you have ever eaten a vine ripened tomato or a tomato grown in someone's garden then you can come close to knowing how good these taste!

I find those standard size and shape tomatoes we mostly get int he UK to be pretty tasteless. I enjoy the tomatoes we buy when in on holiday in the med much more. 😊
Yes, home grown or vine ripened tomatoes have so much more taste that the pitiful ones in the grocery stores! I don't buy many tomatoes unless they are vine ripened or the little tasty cherry tomatoes or these heirloom tomatoes.

Well I've never seen these type of tomatoes, some parts are yellow and they've got a little dent in all the angles too, what type of tomato breed is this?
