Dimensions of the body of amphipods vary from 1.5-2 mm in dwarf species to 6-9 cm in giant species.
According to taxonomic diversity (more than 350 species and subspecies, 41 genus and 6 families), the fauna of amphipods in Baikal has no analogues among the continental reservoirs of the world.
