Man. I never knew ligers were fertile! I always thought they were infertile.
I remember (wrongly) thinking as a kid that I could "totally" take on a lion in combat if I had a spear.. That was until I saw one, and then concluded that it would take at least 4 of us kids, where 3 of us would probably suffer mortal wounds at the attempt.. lol. Ligers are even bigger than Lions.
With the rediscovery of the bird, it makes me wonder how many hybrid species we have yet to discover or even create!! Imagine the possibilities.
I was expecting them to be sterile as well, @strongerbeings, so I was also surprised when I found out that you can actually breed them.
Haha, that's a funny story. I would not want to see the results of four children fighting a liger, a lion or a tiger! That would not end so well :P
Yeah, it is really something to think about. It requires pretty extensive genetic tests to figure out the origin for a certain species, so I'm sure there are more hybrid species on the planet, that we just haven't figured out yet.
