Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri)

in #nature7 years ago

This Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri) comes every year all the way to the Caribbean for a nice warm summer holiday and is hungry.
They breed in the Copper River Delta in Alaska and you can also find them in northeastern Siberia where it is incredibly cold.
I believe some of these little shorebirds stay here in the Caribbean and mite prefere the warm climate because I see them all year round walking on the beach and the wetlands looking for food and insects.

Interesting fact.
I see a lot of them that miss one or two toes and sometimes their whole foot because they got frozen to the ice, now how sad is that.
No wonder some of them want to stay as pensionado and would you not give him a little bite to eat?
