The object of my desire ...

Here is the object of my desire... a great horned owl. We hear them often at night and sometimes see them. Tonight we even had one fly right over our head only a few feet away. But try and take a picture of one with a iPhone! Not going to happen. Low light of dusk. Need to zoom in. Just no way to get a decent picture.

Here is the tree where he was hanging out and hooting. A live oak over looking a grassy field and with ravine behind it.

This photo shows the grassy fields with the oak trees peeking up from the ravine. Again sorry for the low light. We have been going for walks at dusk to watch the owls. There are both barn owls and great horned owls that hunt in these fields. I have been extremely frustrated that I haven't been able to document and share.

Ok here's another horrible picture with an interesting subject. This little guy was in our drive way when we walked back home.

But we lit him up and got close enough from a couple of quality shots to end this post.

I'm pretty sure he is a California tree frog. As opposed to a Pacific tree frog. I mean yes he is a tree frog living in California but there is an indigenous species :)

You sound like me! It is frustrating to try and share your experience and not get the captures you want! I can get better shots with my Canon camera than my iPhone, but not at dusk! At least you got the 1st shot of the owl! :)

Thanks @violetmed Low light is so challenge for us amateurs :) And owls are so elusive. They are silent in flight so you don't hear them coming. And at dusk they will silently emerge from the shadows and then disappear back into the darkness. Its really almost like a spirit.

Very cool 😎

thanks my friend @melip :)

The big eyes of this guy say how surprised he was to see You at such a late hour :)

Haha He is supposed to be safe from silly people at night :)

At least you have the memories, @steven-patrick... I so often have to content myself with the actual experience because the photos are out of focus !

Funny you should say that... before I got going on Steemit, I was totally a "put away your camera and enjoy the moment" kind of guy. We all evolve lol

It's difficult to take great shoot with long distance and low light, even with the camera, so with an iPhone isn't so bad. ;-). And for your little guy, did you kiss him just in case ?

ha ha my wife tried to catch him so I teased her that he was poisonous

That frog better be careful ... That owl has a close eye on it.

Yep totally :)

Good job getting the shot of the Owl, even if it's not crystal clear, it's still amazing to see one isn't it? I hear them in the trees around my house often, usually later in the winter though, and I've never been able to get a photo. Great shot of the frog, too!

Thanks @melinda010100 the great horned owls were hooting again last night

We usually don't hear the great horned owls until January or so, during their mating season. It's been a quiet summer around here. I haven't heard any owls, that I can recall
