We try to have some food out for the wild birds. There's this platform as well as a feeder. We get a variety on there. Anything from sparrows to doves. As I was out with the chickens today a robin came in for a feed. I was only about 2 metres away, so had to get a snap.
The robin we get here is distinct from the bird of that name in North America that is a type of thrush. The European robin is a very territorial bird and so you don't often see more than one at a time. We generally have one around the garden and it's fairly tame. It will come in when we are digging to look for food. It often sings from the trees to make it clear it's his patch. I've not noticed the females. They don't have the red breast.
BTW There was a thing long ago to give birds human like names. Robin Redbreast was one and Jenny Wren another, but only robin seems to have stuck.
I try to let the chicken roam the garden at least a couple of times each week. They seem to find something of interest. I keep an eye on them as there are foxes around. They don't tend to wander too far and it's usually easy to chase them back into the run, especially as they expect a treat then. We give them some mealworms that soon disappear. You can see them waiting eagerly. The white one tends to get up on the ramp there. They are not keen on being handled, but I guess that's just because we didn't do it from the start.
I've just remembered I didn't bring today's eggs in. We had three today from the four chickens. They tend to lay a little less when the days are shorter.
If you have any questions about keeping chickens I'll try to answer them.

I never knew about the names for Robin ...thanks for that info.
I actually looked up where the word for chicken came from:
Firstly, it can be a metonymic occupational name for someone who bred poultry for the table, derived from the Middle English word "Chike", a shortened form of "chike", in old English, pre 7th Century, "cicen", young fowl.
I like your chickens...of course I would never eat them.
They are probably too old to eat now. We hope to have many years of eggs from them
There was a time when i used to have bird visitor in my backyard. They used to make nest and lay eggs. It was a beautiful sight to watch. But then squirrels invaded in my garden. Birds stopped visiting and squirrels population increased. I think there are over 10 -12 squirrels in my garden right now. They often attack birds. They once attacked and injured a bird species called "Myna". They bite it in the legs. The bird was unable to fly because of the pain. I and my cousin took the bird inside and patched it up and let it free some days later. This was a very memorable part for me. More importantly a group a myna's would visit daily and call for it.
We have seen squirrels in our garden, but not recently. I know some people consider them pestd
Hey Steve, I found it ;-)
Here's a pic I took of a North Island Robin - https://steemit.com/photography/@trevor.george/steevc-posted-a-pic-of-an-english-robin-so-i-thought-i-d-put-up-a-kiwi-one
I love the robin, the one who eat in my backyard looks really fat, but maybe it's just for his winter feathers.
Your chickens seems to love the worms ;)
I used to love seeing all the birds when we had a feeder in the garden. I will keep an eye out for another once we’ve got our garden organised. I need a cat and dog friendly one now.
I can see our feeder from my study. We get quite a selection of birds. The robin is back there right now with a collared dove watching. Oh, and now a tit. It's busy out there.
We have little robins here too. They are very cute. I haven't seen on in the city, but we have an island in the middle of the harbour that is a sanctuary and there are robins on there.
I've even got a photo of one somewhere. I'll see if I can find it so we can compare robins ;-)
