Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!
Today, I will skip the animalphotography contest as there is something else I want to share with you.
The news come from the animal kingdom too but unfortunately, it lacks the heartwarming feel of all those irresistible shots of cute furry creatures. What I want to show you today is actually the very opposite. It is a harrowing footage that fully exposes the agonizing consequences of the human exploitation of the Mother Nature.
Source of video: Youtube
As you can see in the video, this desperate orangutan is trying to attack a bulldozer that just tore down the ape´s jungle home. The footage was taken on the island of Borneo where orangutans used to be very common, living happily in the dense canopy of local majestic rain forests. Due to massive (both legal and illegal) logging, however, the orangutan population on Borneo has been decimated critically. With their homes destroyed by heavy machinery, the poor orangutans are often left there to starve and die. Those who survive sometimes venture to villages and settlements of the local people many of whom have little sympathy for the impoverished apes though, attacking them with stones and homemade weapons. It is estimated that the population of the Bornean orangutan is currently less than 14% of what it was just a couple of decades ago.
I hate to share things like this but I believe spreading the word can help do away with this despicable practice. Hopefully, the destruction of orangutans´ habitat will come to an end soon and these magnificent and incredibly intelligent creatures who share 97% of the DNA with humans will be able to live happy lives again.

Everything because of stupid palm oil
Yes, most of the destruction is done to make space for palm oil plantations...
It's pretty crazy that we humans are willing to go to these lengths just to get cheap palm oil. We are literarily destroying the tropical rainforest in both South-America and Asia just to get it.
Ouch, that's heartbreaking to watch! The poor guy just wanted to protect his home, but didn't stand a chance against the bulldozer. It's incredible what people are doing in order to make some money..
This footage is heartbreaking indeed. To me, it symbolizes the uneven struggle of a desperate animal individual against the ruthless machinery controlled by humans. However, I am still strongly convinced that Nature as a whole cannot be and will never be conquered by us. She will always have the upper hand in the long run, no matter what we think or do.
I hope you are right about this!
I saw that video some days ago, it is heartbreaking and in the same time you can see how much better are animals than humans!
Totally agree. I have been generally considering animals better creatures than humans for some time already. Unlike humans, animals are never evil.
Hm mozno sa tu trz ten koment nehodi, ale brutalne mi to pripomina scenu z Avatara...ked ten hlavny hrdina spal v lese s tou jeho modrou vyvolenou a zobudily ich masiny kacajuce les. A on na ne zautocil..
Jo, myslím, že si tu scénu pamatuju. Akorát že to odlesňování Bornea není film, ale krutá realita :(
Well, not only for the orangutans home, but deforestation should be reduced drastically.
else when a tree is cut let it be replaced with one or two when the purpose have been achieved.
thanks man, i always love this blog.
You are right, its not just about orangutans, tropical rain forests are known to have one of the highest biodiversities on Earth so there are probably thousands of other species suffering because of the deforestation. This practice needs to be stopped asap.
