Wasps live together in a nest with an egg-laying queen and workers that do not reproduce. But did you know that they build their nets anywhere...even in a hole in the ground? I came across this wasp nest while walking my dog.
**Evidence of wasps is found in the Jurassic Period and are found now in all areas of the world except for the polar regions. They are a diverse group with over a hundred thousand species. Nearing the end of the summer months, some wasps begin to enter a period of frenzy in order to feed their queen. I have been stung a number of times, particularly during this late summer period. Contrary to some belief....wasps can sting repeatedly.

**They come many different colors: yellow, white, blue, red, orange, brown. The brighter colors are generally the ones that sting.

Wasps provide many services to the earth including supporting pest control for farmers such as lettuce producers and celery producers which can be often invaded by black flies.
I hope you have enjoyed this post and maybe you will even think a little differently about wasps :)
