in #nature6 years ago

I want to share some pictures of my axolotls and in the same way I leave a little information, compiled.
There are many legends around this animal, it is very noble I have harmless, I hope you like it.

Ambystoma mexicanum of Nahuatl āxōlōtl («ā» -atl- = water, «xōlōtl» = smooth-skinned animal: "smooth-skinned animal of water") is a species of caudate amphibian of the family Ambystomatidae. It is endemic to the lacustrine system of the Valley of Mexico and has had a great influence on Mexican culture. It is in critical danger of extinction due to the contamination of the waters in which it lives. It is a neotenic species, that is, it can reach sexual maturity while retaining its larval characteristics, and unlike most amphibians, it does not go through a process of metamorphosis.
It measures around 15 cm of total length, being rare the units that measure more than 30 cm. The axolotl has the appearance of a giant tadpole with legs and tail. It is characterized by having three pairs of gills, which leave from the base of his head and go backwards, small eyes, smooth skin and legs whose fingers are thin and pointed, but which do not develop nails. Coloring of the axolotl is very variable: in the wild, most are dark brown with black back, belly lighter, and dark spots weak and inconspicuous on the flanks and back. However, they can also present different coloration patterns, especially in captivity: gray, brown, brown green, orange and even white with black eyes, golden albino, white albino or almost black.
